Wofford heads to Rhodes Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 10, for a non conference date with Elon. Kickoff is 2:00 PM ET, streaming on FloSports with radio on the Wofford Digital Network. It is Homecoming for the Phoenix.
The Terriers (3-3, 2-2 SoCon) are coming off a 32-25 win at Furman in the 100th meeting, which snapped a three-game losing streak. Wofford is the only SoCon team to have played four league games. Elon is 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the CAA after a 30-23 loss at New Hampshire, and the Phoenix are receiving votes in both the FCS Coaches Poll and the Stats Perform FCS poll.
The series dates to 1921. Wofford leads it 28-12 across 40 meetings, and the two programs met every season from 2002 to 2013 as Southern Conference members. They also met once in the FCS Playoffs in 2018. Elon won the last meeting 26-0 at Gibbs Stadium in 2022, which ended a run of six straight Wofford wins in the series.
Ethan Drumm arrives as one of the most efficient passers in the country. He leads the nation in yards per completion (17.93), ranks second in yards per attempt (10.39), and sits sixth in passing efficiency (173.5). He threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns at Furman. Isaiah Scott caught seven of those passes for 193 yards and two scores, and he ranks 16th nationally at 19.44 yards per reception. Ivory Aikens is fourth in the country in kickoff returns at 32.0 yards per return and tied for first in kickoff return touchdowns. Gerald Modest Jr. has five rushing touchdowns and averages 75.3 rushing yards per game. The Tdawgs are also perfect in the red zone at 14-of-14 with 11 touchdowns, best in the nation.
On defense, Wyatt Ward is 30th nationally at 9.0 tackles per game and Cole Walker averages a pass defended per game.
Elon is 3-0 at Rhodes Stadium this fall with wins over Glenville State, Sacred Heart and Maine, outscoring those three 109-45. The Phoenix have won four straight home games dating to last season. Freshman running back Kamerin McDowell-Moore ran for 273 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries at New Hampshire, the fourth best rushing game in Elon history and the most ever by an Elon freshman. He leads the CAA and ranks fifth nationally with 754 rushing yards (125.7 per game) and has six rushing touchdowns. Preseason All American linebacker Brodie Carroll leads the defense in tackles, tackles for loss and sacks and has posted double digit tackles in four straight games. Elon held New Hampshire to 54 rushing yards on 26 carries.
Stopping McDowell-Moore is the job for a Terrier front that has rotated deep into the depth chart. On the other side, Drumm’s big play passing game meets an Elon defense that racked up nine tackles for loss last week.
Wofford (3-3, 2-2 SoCon) at Elon (4-2, 2-2 CAA), Saturday, Oct. 10, 2:00 PM ET on FloSports. The Terriers return home the following week for Homecoming against VMI.
