Wofford wore out VMI on the road in Cameron Hall, winning 81-67. The Terriers dominated the game from start to finish, leading for over 93% of the game and by as many as 20 points.
Cayden Vasko led the team with a season-high 26 points, along with 9 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal and a block. Nils Machowski finished with a double-double, behind 15 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal. Jayden Tyler matched Nils with 15 points of his own, 3 rebounds and an assist.
Chace Watley continued his streak of double digit scoring efforts, with 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Brian Sumpter added another monster slam to his freshman year highlight reel, scoring 9 points, with 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks. The true freshman in the game did seem to lose steam down the stretch, something that will be something to monitor going forward until starting SG Kahmare Holmes is back in action, out with a high ankle sprain.
There have been some reports Kahmare could be back as soon as this Saturday against Western Carolina. Kahmare was in a walking boot on the bench during the VMI game, and we believe timeline seems to be ambitious given his current status. We expect Kahmare to be sidelined for at least another couple of games as he continues to rehab, but it is possible we see him sooner. When he plays, Holmes has averaged 19.0 points per game this season on 30.8 minutes per game.
Another big development from the game for the Terriers was Luke Flynn’s return to the court, as the sophomore guard was able to log some minutes in the game coming off an ankle injury. Flynn moved well on the court and did not seem hampered by the ankle, and he should see more minutes in JRIS this Saturday. Prior to the game, Flynn averages 28.8 mpg this season, and has typically been the Terriers’ starting PG.
Wofford moved to 16-8 (8-3) on the season, and 27-9 all-time against the VMI Keydets. CKG’s squad also moves to 8-5 this season on the road, which puts them tied for third most road wins in the country this season. The Tdawgs will be back in action at 4 PM this Saturday against the Catamounts of Western Carolina.
