Spartanburg, SC – Wofford has been dealing with injuries throughout the season this year, and with Luke Flynn now also out with an ankle injury, the Terriers are playing fairly short-handed. It has not slowed down Kevin Giltner’s squad, however, as the Terriers have won 3 straight to find themselves sitting in sole possession of 2nd place in the SoCon at 6-2, only one game back from SoCon rival ETSU.
Sophomore F Cannon Richards was injured in the second game of the season against Milwaukee, going down with an apparent knee injury that has held him out of every game since. We have reached out for comment from the Wofford staff, but have gotten no update on whether he will be available or not for the remainder of the season. Cannon is a significant loss for the Terriers, as he provides a much needed veteran post-presence to this Terriers squad when healthy.
The 6’7″ Sophomore has impressive bounce, rebounding and scoring ability, and provides Wofford a lot of flexibility. As of the writing of this article, we do not expect Cannon to return to the court for the Terriers this season, and instead expect he will focus on rehab and preperation for the 2026-27 season. If he indeed is out for the remainder of the season, he should be deemed eligible to receive a medical redshirt given his injury has kept him out nearly the entire year, which would bring him back to the Terriers next fall with 3 years of eligibility remaining.
Wofford Junior C Callum Richard was out for an extended period with a concussion, but is now available again for Coach Kevin Giltner and staff to plug and play as needed. Callum has struggled to find his place in the rotation since his injury, as he has taken it slow to avoid more serious complications. Callum gives the Terriers size that no other player on the team can provide, standing at 6’10”. Richard transferred in from East Carolina out of the American in the off-season, and has shown several promising signs of growth when able to play. In HS, Callum was considered a 3* recruit and the #19 player in the state of NC (#3 PF/C).
Most recently, the Terriers lost an integral part of the starting line-up when Sophomore G Luke Flynn went down with an apparent ankle injury against Chattanooga on 1/14. He has missed Wofford’s last four games dealing with the injury, leading to an influx of minutes for Chace Watley, Jayden Tyler & Brendan Rigsbee. We spoke with Luke, who told us the training staff has had him doing a lot of rehab to work on eliminating the pain and inflammation. Luke added, “I appreciate all the kind words from fans on my injury, and excited to get back out there really soon.” Sources tell SHD’s that Luke suffered no ligament damage, and could be able to return in as little as a few weeks from the time of this article being published. A former 3* recruit out of Walton HS, Flynn was an integral piece of the SoCon title squad of last season, and made a plethora of shots in the SoCon tournament. He was rated a Top 50 incoming PG in the country by 247Sports in 2024.
Wofford, 14-7 (6-2), will be on the road Thursday night against Chattanooga, the same team that the Terriers suffered a loss to in JRIS earlier this year after Flynn went down injured. The Terriers were up 53-43 with 8 minutes left in the game when Luke suffered what looked like a gruesome injury at the time, as he was unable to put any weight on his leg and went straight to the locker room. The loss of Flynn showed up immediately in the game, as the Terriers dealt with the emotions of seeing one of their teammates go down, and ultimately could not overcome it.
Wofford looks to avenge this loss at 7 PM this Thursday in McKenzie Arena against a Mocs program that they have lost 7 straight games to, dating back to March 2023. As always, we will continue staying on top of any developments and relay what we can.
