Wofford won a thriller over Furman with a 74–70 victory on Saturday night in Greenville. Paladin fans in Timmons Arena left stunned and disappointed as Furman lost its first 1-85 rivalry matchup in the newly renovated arena.

The Terriers and Paladins came into the game battling in the SoCon standings, and despite Wofford trailing by 13 with 10 minutes to play, Kevin Giltner’s squad took over the game and went on a 17–0 run to take the lead, which they held until the end of the game.

Nils Machowski was dominant, and led the team with 20 points along with 9 rebounds in the win. Kahmare Holmes matched him punch for punch with 20 points of his own, playing with poise in the clutch.

Freshman G Chace Watley complemented the effort with 15 points, going 6-of-11 from the field and making multiple big plays down the stretch. Another Freshman, F Brian Sumpter, recorded a double-double, with 10 points and a game leading 14 rebounds, along with 3 assists, 2 steals and a block. The lineup balance was strong, with contributions across the roster that helped grind out the rivalry win.

Wofford moves to 37-25 against their arch rival Furman since moving to Division 1 in 1997, including winning 29 of the last 40.

The Terriers now sit at 12-7 and 4-2 in conference play, and will face the 9-10 (2-4) Samford Bulldogs at home in JRIS at 6PM on Wednesday night.
