Wofford wins convincingly in their SoCon home opener with a blistering of UNCG, 97-85. The Terriers and Spartans came into the game both unbeaten in league play, but it was all dogs from the opening tip, with Wofford holding a double digit league for over 60% of the game. JRIS was rocking, with a great showing from the student section providing a clear home court advantage. Wofford is now a perfect 10-0 this season when the Terriers lead at halftime.
Kahmare Holmes was dominant, and led the team with 27 points, along with 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal. Cayden Vasko was his usual, very versatile self with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals.
Nils Machowski scored 16 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists in only 22 minutes on the floor. Luke Flynn was on fire from 3-pt land, hitting 4/5 for 12 points, along with 7 rebounds, an assist and a steal. All four true freshman were big factors in the win. Chace Watley scored 14 points with 6 rebounds and 2 assists, while Jayden Tyler added 7 points and a rebound.
Wofford is 3-0 in SoCon play for the first time since 2018-19, when Wofford finished #19 in the AP poll and 21-0 in SoCon play. Since 2017, every SoCon team that has started conference play 3-0 has finished Top 3 in league play.
The Terriers (11-5) move to 35-25 against UNCG all-time.
Wofford will play Game 4 of their SoCon slate on Saturday at 2 PM in Macon, taking on the Mercer Bears.
